New Year’s Eve Weekly Connection

Hello,  Just a very few things for you this week.  We seem to be in that lull between the rush of the holidays and the start of the New Year!

Sunday morning worship with Communion begins at 10:00. Our choir will be back with us, a Kids Message from Shannon during the service and Pastor Kevin’s message will focus on the work of the Holy Spirit.  Kids Connection is in place too!  Coffee time follows in Veno Hall.  Hope to see you here as we  begin 2016 together as a church family.

If you usually participate in the Helping Hands offering, look for that envelope in your bulletin on Sunday.  It is good to remind you that those funds are used at Pastor Kevin’s discretion to help those in our church family and in the community with financial needs.

Elsa and Georgia are planning on having the offering envelopes for 2016 available on Sunday in the Welcome Center. If you do not currently use envelopes and would like to, please speak with Elsa or Georgia on Sunday.  Also, if you see envelopes that have your name on them and you do NOT plan on using them, please let them know that as well.  Funds for the church are received in many different ways and sometimes envelopes are not needed.  Thank you!

If you are  a member of the church Council, please make note of the meeting on Monday evening at 7:00 here at the church in the Ruth Room across from the office.

Leanne Geisser called the office and asked for prayer for her mother.  I do not know the details but God does, so please remember Leanne’s Mom in your prayers.

A new sign-up for altar flowers is posted outside the kitchen.  As the new year begins, keep in mind that this is a good way to honor a special person or event in your life.  The cost is $30.  The floral arrangement is delivered to the church on Saturday and you are welcome to take the flowers with you following Sunday worship.

I will post new sign-ups for coffee time in the coming weeks.  In the meantime…thanks to everyone who has been helping out with all the details that make coffee time work!

December 17th Weekly Connection

Good afternoon,  Hoping to keep this brief – I am sure you have plenty to do at this busy time of year!

As is our tradition, we will have poinsettias in our sanctuary for Christmas services. They will be delivered tomorrow.  The cost of each plant is $12.00.  I know the time is short but you still have time to purchase one or two 🙂 in memory or honor of a loved one.  Please email me or give the office a call with the details so that we can include your name in the list of donors for Sunday’s bulletin.  I will be doing that insert first thing in the morning, so please be in touch asap if you would like to be included. In looking over the poinsettia orders that have been returned, there are many slips missing from people who typically order a plant – so don’t assume that someone else in your family took care of this!   You can mail or drop off a check for payment at your convenience. THANK YOU!

The board near the Welcome Center is the place to post your Christmas or New Year’s greeting to your United family.  Please be sure and stop to read the cards and look at the family photos as well!

We are looking forward to celebrating Christmas on Sunday morning at 10:00!  There are several highlights to our service that you don’t want to miss.  Wonderful music from our choir, special music from three of our most-gifted people,  uplifting message from Pastor Kevin, Advent reading…the list goes on and on.  Please be here and begin this Christmas remembering the “Reason for the Season.”  Following worship, Meg has planned a special brief family rally in the Kids Connection classroom focused on Christmas.  Parents, please take note!

Coffee time follows in the fellowship hall.  Thank you to everyone who is helping out with this time each week.  We appreciate all the volunteers who provide treats, beverages and help with clean-up and set-up.

Christmas goodies are welcome! Take a look at the sign-ups near the kitchen and see where you can help out.

Monday evening at 7:27 is the Young Life meeting for all high school age kids.  I think this is the last meeting for a few months, but check in with Meg if you have questions.

CHRISTMAS EVE services will be held on Thursday evening at 5:00 and again at 10:00.  The 5:00 service will be in the Welcome Center and will be a time for all families to come together for stories, carol singing, warm beverages and cookies.  ALL ages welcome!   We will begin our traditional candlelight service at 10:00 in the sanctuary.  Inspiring music, our guest harpist, a seasonal message from Pastor Kevin and the lighting of candles are all part of this evening.  Everyone is welcome to attend either or both …and bring along a friend!

There have been some conversations about having a Men’s Breakfast in January-perhaps the 16th.  If there are any men that are interested in helping out with this, please speak to Pastor Kevin.

Thank you to everyone who is faithfully supplying the needs for our Blessing Bags AND also for the Christmas gifts for local families.  Thank you for your generosity!

Serving this Sunday:
Ushers:  Bev Alty and Marie Olibrice
Greeter:  ?
Kids:  Meg, Scott & Angela Chadwick

I think that is all I have for you today – looking forward to seeing you on Sunday morning at 10:00.  If I forgot something…you’ll be hearing from me again 🙂

December 10 Weekly Connection

” ‘Twas two weeks before Christmas, and all through the church…”  Well, you get where I am going – lots of things happening to remind you about!

Many people have stepped forward to help provide Christmas gifts for local families that Donna Wood has been working with.  We still have TWO items that we need to have purchased.  The first is Ninja Warriors for an 8 year old boy.  The second is any items from the Justice Store with the monogram letter “L” on them for a 4 year old girl.  There is a Justice store located at Legacy Place and also at Mansfield Crossing if that is helpful.   If you can help out with either of these needs, please speak to Donna on Sunday.  Donna is also going to leave a list on the Blessing Bag table in the Welcome Center if anyone is interested in providing some “extras” for these families.  THANK YOU for helping out – we are a blessed church family and this is a wonderful opportunity to share that with some little ones that are looking for that magical Christmas morning!

Look for 2 inserts in your bulletin on Sunday morning.  The first is an order form for thepoinsettias.  As is our tradition, poinsettias can be purchased in memory or honor of someone.  The cost is the same as last year, $12.00.  The poinsettias will be delivered here on December 18th so please have your request in by that date.  The second insert gives you all the details on our Christmas Eve services.  As we did last year, we will have an early family-friendly service at 5:00 and our traditional candlelight worship at 10:00.  Please see below for more details.  What a wonderful way to usher in Christmas!  Plan on being here for one of these services.

The bulletin board closest to the Welcome Center is the place to post a Christmas greeting card for your church family and friends.  Rather than spend time and $ on individual cards, you can just post one card there…and remember to take a look at the board too – those greetings are for you!

If you are able to help out with cleaning up following coffee time on Sunday mornings, that would be great!  If everyone took a turn, it would not fall to the same group of folks each week.  Thanks for giving this some consideration.

Christmas Eve Celebrations 2015:
~Songs & Stories Gathering 5pm: We will have a family friendly gathering reflecting on the Christmas story, singing carols, as well as enjoying cookies and warm beverages!

~Candle Light Worship 10pm: This is our traditional Christmas worship service with special music from our choir and a guest harpist as well as an encouraging message from Pastor Kevin.

Now that I have your attention…here is what you need to be aware of for the next few days:

Friday evening at 7:30 is Singspiration here in our sanctuary.  I am expecting lots of Christmas carols sung and terrific special music. This is an easy way to share in the Christmas season.  Hope to see some of you there!

Saturday morning brings 2 happenings to be aware of:

At 9:00 in Veno Hall, the Women’s Book Study meets.  Please read Chapter 2 in preparation.  Thanks again to Sharon for leading this study!

Saturday at 9:00 is also “Spruce Up the Church” morning!  This is an opportunity to spend a few hours working to get the church looking neater and cleaner before Christmas.  Scott does an outstanding job of handling the huge majority of work that needs to be done BUT this is a big church with many spaces being used for a variety of reasons.  Please come by and spend some time helping out with this need.  The women’s study finishes up about 10: 30 so they will be able to join in as well.

Sunday morning worship begins at 10:00.  This is the 4th Sunday of Advent.  Wonderful Christmas music sung both by our choir and congregation, a great message from Pastor Kevin and a time of sharing our prayer concerns and praises are all part of the service.   What a wonderful way to start the week ahead!  Coffee time follows in Veno Hall

Serving on Sunday:
Ushers: Russ and Donna Wood
Greeters:  To be determined
Kids: Marie, Meg and Deb E.
Lots to keep track of at this time of year.  Make note of what pertains to you and also make some time to be in the quiet of the season.  It just may change the way you look at the Christmas busyness!

Christmas Fair & More: Weekly Connection

Hello everyone, Hope you are enjoying this first week of December – the warmer weather is certainly a bonus, especially as there is a lot of activity for the Christmas Fair going on!

Today was the beginning of set-up for the Fair. If you find yourself with some time to spare, come to the church Friday to help! Barbara Sweeny is directing the volunteers upstairs and there are plenty of tasks to be done.  Help is needed throughout the day and into the evening. Barbara will be here to direct you beginning at 10:00.

AND that brings us to Saturday which is the CHRISTMAS FAIR!

Our annual The Christmas Fair is on Saturday (9:00-3:00) with lunch available from 11:30-1:30pm . Please join us and bring your friends! The highlight of lunch is the Smith’s homemade turkey soup, the WISH women have been busy all year crafting and quilting, there is an extensive raffle table with fun baskets, multiple gift certificates, Bruins and Patriots jerseys, and more. The treasures room has gently used items for the home and Christmas items, books and toys. Don’t forget to visit the bake table! If you are able to help clean up and put the church back together Saturday afternoon (3:00) (and after coffee hour on Sunday), that would be most appreciated. See you at the fair!

Sunday worship begins at 10:00. This is the Second Sunday of Advent. As is our tradition, the Advent candle will be lit and there will be a special reading from one of our church families. Great music from our accompanist, Chris and wonderful music from our choir! Join us on Sunday mornings as we come apart from the busyness and remember the Christ in Christmas. Our Kids Connection and coffee time continue each week as well.

Please note that there will be a Kids Team meeting on Sunday following worship. I’m not sure where the meeting is so…look for Meg!

Kids Connection will be making a special advent & Christmas calendar craft this Sunday! They are also continuing to collect change to raise money towards supporting the Operation Christmas Child Bible Study for kids who receive shoeboxes!

Young Life continues meeting on Monday evening at 7:27 here on the top floor of the church. High schoolers welcome!

Next Wednesday evening at 5:30 is the Open Door Christmas Celebration! Our guests look forward to this fun evening to celebrate Christmas with a good meal and desserts. Santa usually stops by with a gift for each person 🙂 Everyone is welcome! Many thanks to all our volunteers who regularly spend hours preparing food each week! Especially at this time of year, it would be easy to slack off – our volunteers NEVER do that!

Also…Singspiration is Friday December 11th at 7:30. I expect there will be lots of Christmas carols sung and great special music from some very gifted people! We usually have a full sanctuary so plan on being here a bit early.

“SPRUCING UP THE CHURCH MORNING”
Saturday, December 12th! Come and help us make the church sparkle! Looking for volunteers…come for an hour or two or three ( between 9- Noon). Mostly light cleaning and some outdoor work. Hope to see you!

The next get-together for the Women’s Book Study is also Saturday, December 12th at 9:00 here at the church. Ladies, please read Chapter #2 in preparation. This finishes up about 10:00ish leaving time to help out with making the church sparkle!

Serving this Sunday:

-Greeter – Barbara Sulfaro
-Ushers: Dottie Cotter, Barbara Sweeny
-Kids: Deb B. Meg

I think that is all for now. I appreciate you reading through this and making note of those things that interest you.

Hope to see you at the Fair and again for worship on Sunday morning.

Thanks!
