February 25th Weekly Connection

Hope you are having a great day!  Wasn’t  the late night windy weather fun!? Many of us were awakened several times and Janna was reminded of the verse in Psalms that says “I will lie down and sleep in peace, for You alone make me dwell in safety.” Good thought to keep in mind!

Seems there are many reminders on the office desk to include in the weekly connection!  Please make note of those things that pertain to you.

Sunday worship begins at 10:00 with great music, message, praises and prayers.  We are so blessed to have gifted musicians here at our church.  Our choir will be singing an upbeat exciting piece that you don’t want to miss!  Shay Rudolph will be playing during the offertory – something else you don’t want to miss.  And of course, Rachel and Chris will be leading us in worship.  Pastor Kevin’s message series has been excellent – another reason to start your week here  with your church family.  Our volunteers will be in place to work with Meg in Kids Connection and also in Nursery, Coffee time follows in Veno Hall.  Thanks to those who are helping out with those needs on Sunday.

Have you seen the Ruth Room lately?  Donna & Russ Wood have been working feverishly to update that room and make it welcoming and very usable. Currently the Council meets there, our Blessing Bag ministry operates from there and I think our young teen girls get together there for Bible Study on Sunday mornings.  Thanks for all your hard work, Donna & Russ!  It has been great to see the room refreshed and used.  This is one of the things the Building Stewards will be involved with.   Preparing our building for ministry.   Next on the list is…the old council room located next to Pastor Kevin’s office.  We are looking for some folks armed with wallpaper scrapers to come down to the church and help strip wallpaper from that room.  Perhaps you can come by for an hour.  That is great!  Perhaps you can spare an afternoon or evening – that’s great!  Many hands will make this process move along and we will have another space prepared for ministry.  Please help out.  Speak to Donna and let her know when you’re available.  Thanks for thinking about this and lending a hand.

Our WISH brunch last Saturday was a great success! Great food, conversation and a meaningful presentation from Steward hospice.  There is a need and an opportunity for anyone interested to become a volunteer for hospice.  If we have 4 people that are interested, the training can be done right here at church.  We already have one person that is on board.  Volunteers do not do any patient care, but provide companionship and a listening ear to the family.  A volunteer might watch a TV show with the patient or the family, playing a game perhaps. The time commitment is a minimum of one hour a week for one year.   A small amount of time that translates into a huge blessing and something very meaningful for both the volunteer and the recipient.   Speak to me or call the office and I can give you the information you need.

The March calendar and the NEW Daily Bread for March are both available on the Resource Tables.  The large print edition of Our Daily Bread will be available at the end of March.

If you are a member of any church committees, please watch your email for the dates of March meetings.

Young Life has been on hiatus for the winter months.  This ministry will start up again on March 7th at 7:27pm on the top floor here at church.  All high schoolers welcome!

Are you creative? crafty? We need help with a project that might be just the thing for you!  We are looking for someone (or you and a friend) to decorate the large wooden cross for Easter.  You may recall that the cross is typically empty for Easter week but that it comes to life as we celebrate Easter.  Please speak to Pastor Kevin if you are interested.  Pastor can also give you some guidance  on this.  This is one of those projects that can be done in a few short hours and will be such a blessing to our Easter Sunday service.  Please think about it and step forward if this is something you can do.

Thanks to everyone who checks out our Resource Tables!  We try to leave articles, magazines, and other encouraging items there for you.  Many people pick up materials and that is great to see!  If there is something you would like to see, please check in with us at the office and we’ll do our best to provide it.  In the next few weeks we will have an Easter book for you. Look for it on the Resource Tables

On that same note, http://www.faithgateway.com/ is a great place to check out!  Lots of freebies, downloads, ebooks, encouraging scripture art, daily devotionals.  I was sent the link this week and it really offers quite a bit.  Right now you can download “Blessings of the Cross” – an ebook of Easter devotionals.

Faith Seeds lessons should be ready by tomorrow. See Janna on Sunday if you would like to take some home to work on.

Serving this Sunday:
Greeters:  George & Buki
Ushers:  Bev A. & Marie P.
Kids:  Scott, Angela, Jenna, Meg, Silpa

Looks like we’ve reached the end of our notes – if anything was forgotten…you’ll be the first to know! Thanks for being a faithful part of our church family! Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday.

Feb. 18 Weekly Connection

Hi everyone, Hope you are having a good week!  Seems like we are edging towards warmer weather and sunnier days.  Good to see 🙂 Here are the things to keep in mind for the next several days:

Saturday morning at 9:00 in Veno Hall is our WISH Brunch with a special presentation from Steward Hospice.  Penny Gosson will be our speaker and all women are invited to attend and bring a friend.  Great food, catching up with friends and hearing about a wonderfully supportive program is a good way to spend part of your Saturday.  Hope to see many of you there!

Sunday morning worship begins at 10:00 in our sanctuary.  Great music, a time of prayer and opportunities for praise, encouraging message from Pastor Kevin are all part of our time together.  Dedicated volunteers are ready to help out with our Kids Connection program.  Coffee time follows in Veno Hall.  Thank you to everyone who has stepped forward to help out with the details.  Setting up, cleaning up and treats are all needed and appreciated.  Please see the sign-up sheets outside of the kitchen to help out.

Sunday afternoon is Family Date Time!  Meet at Papa Gino’s at the Walpole Mall – 12:15 for lunch followed by some fun at the arcade and play area.  Please speak with Meg if you have any questions.  Sounds like a fun way to wrap up vacation week!

THANK YOU to everyone who attended the Annual Meeting last Sunday.  Despite the frigid temps, we had a great turnout and were able to conduct the required business.  For those of you who were not here, please see me for a copy of the Annual Report as well as a new church directory.  I have plenty of copies of both items.

You may have noticed that our list of homebound friends is not always in the bulletin.  Sometimes we have a lot going on and space does not allow for that.  All of our homebound people are listed in the directory and I am sure a cheery card or call would brighten someone’s day!

Serving on Sunday:  Ushers – Russ & Donna Wood
                                    Greeters:  The Chadwick Family
Kids – Debby S., Georgia, Janna, Meg

Coming soon:
Saturday, March 5th – Outreach Ministries Meeting here at UCN.

Questions? – see Donna Wood

Sunday, March 13th – Mom’s Tea in the Welcome Center

I think that is about all for now.  Thanks for your faithfulness to our church family.

Pre-Valentine’s Weekly Connection

It certainly is chilly out there today!  Feels like winter finally tracked us down. We have a few things to mention today to keep you aware of what is happening here.  Please make note of what pertains to you and keep it in mind as you plan your time.

Tomorrow (Friday) evening is our February Singspiration.  The evening begins at 7:30 with great singing and special music.  Everyone is welcome to come and be warmed by great hymns!  Coffee is available in the fellowship hall at the end of the evening.

Women’s Book Study does meet on Saturday but please make note of the time change.  We will meet at 2:00 in the Ruth Room across from the office.  Please read Chapter #4 in preparation.

Sunday is a busy day.  As announced last week, our Annual Meeting will be this Sunday, February 14th in Veno Hall following worship.  You are welcome to get your coffee and snack and find  a seat.  The Annual Reports will be handed out at that time.

Prior to the meeting we gather for worship at 10:00.  Worship provides us the opportunity to gather as a church family and spend time together.  Great music, prayers and praises and an encouraging message from Pastor are all part of this time.  Our Kids Connection also meets during worship.  Dedicated volunteers are working with Meg both with the older kids as well as the little ones in Nursery.  I think Meg mentioned it previously but a word of thanks to the new volunteers that have offered to help out with our growing nursery needs.

As mentioned above, our Annual Meeting follows worship.  Everyone is encouraged to stay for this meeting as we look over the past year and more importantly look forward to the year ahead.  Please remember to be in prayer over the next several days for our time together both at worship and at our Annual Meeting.

You will find 2 inserts in your Sunday bulletin for upcoming events.  One is for Family Date Time on Sunday February 21st.  Be sure and check that out!  A great opportunity time for families to spend time together!  The second insert gives you all the details on the WISH event on February 20th.  Homemade waffle brunch and a special presentation from Steward Hospice.  These are both events planned for us as a church and also for your friends to enjoy!  Please plan on being a part of one or both of these times!  And bring along a friend!

BLESSING BAG NEWS:  As you know our Blessing Bag ministry steps in to help women who are in very challenging situations – whether homeless, imprisoned or trafficked.  Here is an opportunity to learn more about this subject.

Jasmine Marino, a local survivor and advocate will tell her riveting story of victimization, survival and recovery at Endicott Estate in Dedham on Wed Feb 17th at 6:30 pm. Event is sponsored by several local churches and the league of women voters in a few towns. This is a good opportunity to invite people to hear her testimony.

NEW church directories will be available on Sunday morning in Veno Hall during coffee time.  It is always challenging to get everyone’s information exactly correct – for a variety of reasons.  If corrections are needed please let me know (but not right away 🙂 and I will send out updates as needed.  Also, I have listed only information that people wanted listed – I have other information here in the office.  If there is something else you need, please give me a call and I will do my best to help you out.

Everyone should be receiving the weekly prayer list.  I try to get it out early in the week so you can have it to refer to often as you go about your days.  I just want to mention a few ways people have told me that they use them in case you need some ideas on how best to pray effectively. Some people have a prayer journal that they list each need in. Some people tack it to their bathroom mirror so they see it.  Some people tack it to their dashboard so they can see it while they are driving.  Keep it on their phone.   The possibilities are limitless!  Please use that list in the way that best allows you to pray for those needs and concerns.

Serving on Sunday:
Ushers:  Dottie Cotter, Barbara Sweeny
Kids: Marie, Deb E., and Sandy
That is enough for now – hope to see you on Sunday!

First February Weekly Connection!

Have you noticed that the sun is setting later?  Spring is coming!

First off, a HUGE thank you to the Hospitality Team for a delicious Souper Sunday last weekend!  Many different soups and breads to choose from, and good fellowship around the tables.  Plus, the desserts…

It was good to get important information distributed and discussed prior to the Annual Meeting on February 14th.  Please remember to look over those materials. As always, there will be a time for questions and answers at the meeting.

Sunday morning worship begins at 10.00.  This is a Communion Sunday, and our Helping Hands offering is also received.  If you typically participate in this offering, please look for an envelope in your Sunday bulletin.  Great music, message, and prayers and praises are all part of our service.

Meg, Anna, Deb B., and Linda are this week’s volunteers in the Kids’ Connection.  Coffee time follows in Veno Hall – be sure and check out the bulletin board outside of the kitchen, and sign up where you are able to help out.  🙂  Thanks to everyone who has been helping out in a variety of ways to continue making coffee time a success!

Church Council is reminded of the meeting on Monday, February 8th, at 7.00p in the Ruth Room across from the office.

What is Ash Wednesday?  The start of a season… an opportunity for prayer and reflection… a remembrance of our brokenness before a holy God.  On the calendar Ash Wednesday appears forty days before the miracle of Easter.  If you sit down in front of a calendar you will discover that there are more than forty days between Ash Wednesday and Easter – that’s because we don’t count the intervening Sundays… since every Sunday is a celebration of the resurrection of Jesus.  Next Wednesday the sanctuary will be open from 6pm to 7:30pm for a quiet time to pray.

Looking ahead…
Friday, February 12th:  Singspiration (7.30p)
Saturday, February 13th:  Women’s Book Study (2.00p)
Sunday, February 14th:  Annual Meeting (and Valentine’s Day)
Saturday, February 20th: WISH Meeting with guest speaker (9am)
Sunday February 21st:  Family Date Time at the Walpole Mall (12:15pm)

A little reminder, the altar flowers may be given to recognize a special person or event.  Cost is $30, and the flowers are delivered to the church on Saturday afternoon.  You are welcome to take your flowers with you following the worship service.  See the bulletin board outside the kitchen for sign-up sheets.

Serving on Sunday:
Greeter:  Jessica Eagles
Ushers/ Communion:  Rich Carter, Steve Carter, Cindy Frank, Georgia Shaw
Kid’s:  Anna, Deb B., Linda, Meg

I think that is all for now.  Enjoy your day!  Looking forward to seeing you on Sunday
