Final June Weekly Connection

I hope you have been enjoying this beautiful stretch of weather we have been having!  Kids are out of school and vacation plans are being made!  Here are the things to keep in mind as you plan your time:

Sunday morning begins at 8:45 with prayer time in the church parlor.  This has been a huge blessing as we see people coming together to pray for our church each Sunday.  You are encouraged to stop by as you are able.  The doors may be closed but you can slip in without a problem.  Prayer time finishes up about 9:30.  Worship follows at 10:00 in the sanctuary.  Kids Connection and Nursery volunteers are also in place to help with kids of all ages.  Great music, praise and prayer, fellowship are all part of our time together.  Being here most days I manage to hear quite a few comments from folks as they wander in and out.  The two I heard a lot this week were, “What a great message from Pastor Kevin last Sunday!”  and “Chris’ offertory last Sunday was unbelievable!”  Don’t miss out – be here on Sunday!

Following worship, we enjoy coffee in the fellowship hall.  We would love to have a few new faces bring a snack to share during this time.  Nothing home made necessary!  Picking up something when you do your grocery shopping is fine!  Thank you to everyone who has volunteered to help out with this time – whether setting up, baking, cleaning up – we notice and you are appreciated!

For the summer months we are going to continue doing coffee time the same way as we have been doing it. I have put new sign-ups outside of the kitchen.  I encourage you to sign on the dotted line to help out.  And perhaps consider keeping it to a simpler plan for the hot summer Sundays – someone to make coffee and lemonade and 2 treats to share should be plenty.   Please note that there will be no coffee time on July 3rd due to the holiday weekend.

Young Life has met here on Monday evenings for a few years.  We hear the kids and we may even see them come and go but we don’t really know them and they don’t know us.  All that can change with a bit of help.  The Young Lifers will be going to camp on Saturday, July 2nd and returning on Friday, July 8th.  The meeting point is a school right off of Route 1A in Walpole.  Meg is looking for some volunteers to send the kids off and welcome them back with cold drinks, snacks, coffee etc.  Could you help with this?  Meg has a list of needed items.  We already have some volunteers in place and we need a few more.

Current needs for our Blessing Bag ministry:
granola bars, water bottles, individually wrapped candy mix, peanut butter crackers.

Those items can be left in the bins in the Welcome Center at the display table.  Thanks to Donna Wood for faithfully coordinating this growing ministry.

Thank you to everyone who has continued to keep our Compassion Child, Kevin in your prayers. Kevin lives with his grandmother in Ecuador in an area that was  especially hit hard following the recent earthquake.  His home was damaged and all their possessions were lost.    We have an opportunity to send along a special gift to Compassion to help out with this need.   Our Helping Hands offering that we typically receive on Communion Sunday will be going to Compassion to specifically help with whatever they see as needs for Kevin and his grandmother.  One of Kevin’s favorite things was his bike and we are going to designate a portion of the funds received to replace that bike as necessary.  The Helping Hands offering that we receive on July 10th will be going to Compassion.  Please note that this will be our Communion Sunday

For quite a while there has been a lack of therapeutic professionals in our area for referrals.  I want to let you know about a new counselor here in Norwood.  We received a letter of introduction this week from Nancy Yen.  She is a licensed Marriage & Family Therapist.   Pastor Kevin met with her today to  get to know her  a bit more and get a sense of her experience and beliefs and work.  She is a Christian gal that we feel comfortable recommending.  Take a look at her website if you are interested in learning more about her. Nancy Yen Counseling

I am in the process of updating the bulletin boards around the church.  I have posted new sign-ups outside of the kitchen both for coffee time for the summer and for altar flowers.  Take a look at both please 🙂  The altar flowers are a nice way to recognize a special person or event in your life.  Cost of the flowers is $30 and you are welcome to take them with you following worship.  We take care of ordering them and delivery – all you have to do is sign up!

“THE STORY” is the book that Pastor Kevin will be using in connection with Sunday messages beginning July 10th.  We have not received the ordered copies of the book yet.  I know some people do not have a book yet.  I will make copies of the first chapter and leave them on the table in the narthex.  Pick up a copy on Sunday if you need one.   Please read the first chapter in preparation for the first message on July 10th.

Michelle sent a new update from her work in China.  Look for it on the display able in the narthex.

June 11 Connection

Hope you are having a good week!  Here are something to keep in mind over the next several days:

Sunday is a B U S Y day!  Sunday morning begins with a time of prayer at 8:30  in the Welcome Center.   I know Sundays can be hectic and we are often pulled in many directions, but if you are able, come by and spend some time in prayer prior to worship.  Spending time with God will certainly prepare your heart for worship!  This Sunday is Children’s Day.  Our kids will be active participants in worship!  Meg would appreciate all the kids being here by 9:15.  Please be in touch with Meg if you have any questions.  Pastor Kevin will be sharing the word of God, our choir will be singing,  kid friendly music …and the all-church picnic follows worship at 11:30.  Pastor Kevin will be manning the grill and he is looking for an able-bodied assistant to help with that.   We will also need a “runner”  to bring hot food into the hungry folks waiting in Veno Hall 🙂 If you are willing to help out, please give the office a call or let Pastor know on Sunday morning.

On Sunday we will also be recognizing our 2 high school graduates.  Congratulations to Robbie Bayha and Brett Chadwick!  Both of these young guys graduated this past week.  Robbie attended Sharon High School and Brett has been homeschooled.  Well done!  Robbie will be attending U MASS Amherst in September.  If you read the Boston Globe or have access to it, there was a great article on Brett’s homeschool graduation.  Angela has also shared the link on her FB page.  Check it out!

We received another update from Michelle.  Are you keeping her in your prayers?  Pick up the update from the table in the narthex.

If anyone has use for a NEW Apple keyboard, please speak to Pastor Kevin.  He has one that needs a good home 🙂

Monday evening at 7:00 at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Norfolk is another opportunity to learn more about the growing problem of human trafficking and exploitation.  This evening will specifically address how churches can respond to this problem and be a safe place to someone in need.  Please speak to Donna Wood if you have any questions or are interested in attending.  Details on the bulletin board near the Welcome Center.

The Administrative Team will meet on Tuesday evening at 7:00 at my home in Sharon.

Mark your calendars: Vacation Bible Club will be taking place over 3 Thursday nights: July 14, 21 & 28 from 6:30-8pm for ages 5-10.  Kids 3-4 can come with a parent or “big buddy” and kids ages 11 and up can come as a “big buddy” or activity helper.  The theme is OASIS: Finding a new start in God’s refreshing love!

Serving on Sunday:
Ushers:  Barbara Sweeny, Elyse Peterson
Greeter:  Marie Schuhmacher
Kids:  Meg, Janna, Roger, Silpa

I think that is all for now.  See you on Sunday!

Welcome to JUNE Connection

Hello, Hope you are enjoying your week!  Here are some things to keep in mind over the next several days:

Sunday morning begins with a time of prayer at 8:30  in the Welcome Center.   I know Sundays are very busy and we are often pulled in many directions, but if you are able, come by and spend some time in prayer prior to worship.  Spending time with God will certainly prepare your heart for worship!

Worship begins at 10:00 in the sanctuary.  Wonderful music, a time for prayers and thanks to God and a great message from Pastor Kevin.  Communion will also be offered this Sunday.  Kids Connection and Nursery care is provided.

On Communion Sundays, our Helping Hands offering is received.  Those funds are used at Pastor’s discretion to assist those in our church and community with financial needs.  Look for the envelope in your bulletin if you would like to contribute.

The Church Council and the Building Stewards will meet following worship on Sunday.  Please pick up your coffee and snack and meet in the Welcome Center at about 11:15.

The Annual Young Life Yard Sale is today and tomorrow at the Baptist Church Carriage House at 71 Bond Street.  Fridays hours are 6:30-8:30pm and the Saturday hours are 8:30am-3:00pm.  All kinds of treasures can be found!  Household goods, toys, sporting goods etc.  All proceeds benefit camp scholarships for Young Life kids.  Come by and support this great effort!

Young Life meets on Monday evening at 7:27pm – all high-schoolers are welcome!

Marion Rich requests are due in the office on Thursday, June 9th.

Saturday, June 11th Voice of the Martyrs Conference – see the bulletin board near Nahatan Street for all the details.  The conference is not really local – Auburn, MA –  but if you are in that area or would like to  travel there, I am sure it would be well worth your time!.  We have had several people attend this in years past.  The conference runs from 9am-4pm.

Also on June 11th from 10am-3pm  “Art in the Park”  on the Common at the “Gazebo” across from the church.  I suspect our very own Cindy Rudolph will have some of her work available.  Always a great day – drop by if you have some time.

Sunday June 12 is Children’s Day and our All-Church Picnic!  Please see the sign up sheet in Veno Hall and let us know if you are coming and…what food you can bring to share.  And if you are not able to bring something – no problem at all – just come and enjoy lunch and conversation with your friends here!

As I mentioned June 12th is Children’s Day.  Our kids will be active participants in worship that day!  Meg encourages all the kids to be here this Sunday so that they can practice their songs and be sure of all that is happening.  It is a busy time of year and if the kids cannot be here this Sunday, please be here at 9:15 on the 12th.  Please be in touch with Meg if you have any questions.

Norwood Day!  As Pastor mentioned last week, we are looking for an enthusiastic group of people committed to making Norwood Day a great day!  We have a perfect location and the sky is the limit so if you are interested in being a part of this opportunity, speak to Pastor Kevin.  Pastor has been in touch with the town already about our participation.
