Independence Day Weekly Connection!

Well, the 4th of July weekend is finally here…our official entry into SUMMER!  This is the time of year when we plan vacations, day trips and casual get-togethers with friends and family.  Enjoy those moments!  Church and it’s activities also continue – be sure and stay in touch and be here for Sunday worship as you are able!

Early Saturday morning, our Young Life teens that meet here on Monday evenings throughout the year will be heading off to camp.  Meg & Tim Nelson will  be accompanying them.  We have a few people sending them off with coffee, cold drinks and snacks.  The kids will be returning on Friday, July 8th around 5:45.  We will be welcoming them home with snacks at the Fisher School in Walpole.  We could use a few more friendly faces – please speak to Pastor Kevin if you can help out.  Please remember these teens this week.  Many of us have had wonderful camp experiences that have played a major role in growing our faith.  Pray for God’s presence to be felt in kids and staff all week!

Sunday prayer time meets in the church parlor prior to worship.  This is THE time to pray for our church, staff and ministries.  You are welcome to come and go as you need to.  Please speak to Yuniya Simms with any questions.

Worship begins at 10:00 in the sanctuary.  Great music, praises and joys shared, prayer concerns raised and an encouraging message from Pastor Kevin.  As mentioned previously, Pastor Kevin is beginning a series of messages this Sunday based on The Story – the story of the Bible condensed into 31 readable chapters.  The order of additional books should arrive today, so I expect to have them on the table in the narthex for Sunday morning.  Suggested donation is $5.00.  Please read Chapter 1 in preparation for Sunday.

Our service of Communion will be July 10th.  Please remember that we will be receiving our Helping Hands offering that day as well.  Those funds will be sent to help out our Compassion Child in Ecuador who suffered tremendous loss following the recent earthquake.

Our Kids Connection Team is taking a well-deserved break this Sunday.  The church parlor is stocked with toys and an audio feed is available as well.  Kids Connection will resume next Sunday.

Also, there will be no coffee time this Sunday.  BUT please take a look at the NEW sign-up outside of the kitchen for summer coffee time.   We are going to continue coffee time as we have been doing, just simpler.  We really need people to step forward and help out with this.  Set-up involves coming about 15 -20 minutes early on Sunday morning and making sure that the snacks are out, coffee is made, cold drinks are in the fridge etc.  We are also asking for just 3 food items each week – someone to bring bagels and cream cheese, someone to bring cookies and someone to bring another goodie – your choice!  PLEASE look at your schedule and help out.  We all enjoy this time and it really needs YOUR help to run smoothly.  Any questions, please speak to Sharon Smith or Laurie Ahern.

Our Blessing Bag ministry continues to be in demand.  Last year we were able to donate 90 backpacks to women in need.  We are already up to 222 now and the need continues to grow.  MANY thanks to Donna Wood for coordinating this effort and working long hours on this ministry.
These are the items that we need to replenish our supplies:
granola bars, water bottles, individually wrapped candy mix( hard candies and snack or bite size Snickers, Milky Ways etc.) peanut butter crackers, hair brushes  These are easy items to find when you are doing your grocery shopping.  Make note and lend a hand!

We are also in desperate  need of used back packs.  As school has ended, check your kids closets and ask your neighbors – as long as they are clean and usable we can use them.  These items can be left in the bins in the Welcome Center at the display table.

Ladies  – are you looking for something a teeny bit challenging but actually fun to do?  Do you really want to make a difference in someone’s life?  Do you have a free half hour or hour every week or two?  Our Faith Seeds ministry needs you!  Faith Seeds is a ministry that encourages incarcerated women through Bible correspondence lessons.  Before that scares you away…you do not need to be a Bible scholar.  Our “free training” will show you the ropes and get you started.  You do not need to create lessons – that is done.  You do not need to have Bible verses memorized – that is done.  You do need a colored pen, perhaps your Bible and a quiet spot to work.  In a nutshell, women in prison send us a lesson they have done; we look it over and send back comments and words of encouragement along with the next lesson in the series – that is all there is to it.  Please think and pray about joining our Faith Seeds team here.  I can promise you that you will be glad you did – many of these girls are new in their faith and just need someone to stand in the gap and encourage them.  You can be that person.

Summer office hours begin next week and continue until the end of August 🙂  The office will be “open” Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  The hours will vary  but we are always here in the morning and at least until early afternoon…and later.  If you have any items for the bulletin, please have them to the office no later than Wednesday as the bulletin will be printed on Thursday.  And of course, if there is a specific need, please speak to Pastor or myself and I am sure we can accommodate you.

Serving on Sunday:
Greeter:  Elsa Johnson
Ushers:  Bev Alty, Marie Olibrice

Thank you for being a faithful part of our church.  Hope to see you on Sunday
