Mid-October Updates

Hi everyone, please keep these things in mind as you plan your time.

All ladies are reminded of the WISH Gathering on Saturday morning at 9:00 here at church.  Cindy sent out an email earlier in the week with all the details.  We have several items to work on and we’ll chat about the upcoming Pie Day and Christmas Fair.  This is a good opportunity to jump in if you would like to be a part of WISH – we are coming into a busy time of year and there are lots of ways to be involved.

Sunday worship is at 10:00 and is preceded by prayer time in the church parlor.  If you are following along in “The Story”, please read pages 100-102 in preparation for Pastor’s message.  Great music from our choir, uplifting singing and a time for your praises and prayer concerns to be shared.  Kids Connection and Nursery Care are in place for the younger ones.

The kick-off for the Under 40 Discussion Group will be this Sunday following worship in the first floor conference room.  We don’t seem to have any volunteers able to provide child care, but little ones are welcome to hang out, we’ll have high chairs and toys moved over from the nursery to the conference room.  Grab some coffee and a treat, and come on down for time with other Younger Adults! We’ll be starting the video series “All the Places to Go” by John Ortberg.  To get a glimpse of this great study, you can log in to our Right Now Media account, and find a link to the study on the United Church of Norwood channel. There is a 2 minute trailer for the study. Haven’t activated your access to Right Now Media yet?  Email Meg so she can re-send you a link to get access! faithfulmeg@yahoo.com

The books for the Monday evening Bible study are on backorder.  Copies of Chapters 1 & 2 are available on the table in the narthex.  Next meeting is Monday, November 7th at 7:00 at the parsonage, giving you ample time to get the chapters read.

Marketing is not a bad word!  We are looking for folks interested in being part of a group to plan a strategy for getting the word out about the United Church of Norwood.  We will be meeting for the first time after church on Sunday the 23rd.  You have a lot to offer.  Please speak to Silpa with any questions.

The third annual Young Life 5K Walkathon will be taking place October 29 at Adams Farm in Walpole.  This is the primary fundraiser for a crucial ministry reaching out to high school students, middle school students, and students with special needs! The weekly high school outreach club meets in our top floor on Mondays in the fall and spring.  We’re looking forward to our middle schoolers joining in some of their Wyld Life events this year as well! Would you consider joining the walk? Or perhaps you can sponsor someone who is walking!  If you or someone you know runs a business that would be interested in becoming an event sponsor, that’s another great way to help! Check in with Meg Nelson for info! Here’s the link to register to walk https://giving.younglife.org/MA34WALK16 To directly sponsor Meg to walk, you can do so here, https://giving.younglife.org/Views/evt/dsp_ParticipantPage.cfm?idEvent=664&idUser=84310 or giving her a donation in person! Most of all, please keep this great ministry in your prayers!

Yuniya taped her next message for Norwood cable last night.  Please keep Yuniya in your prayers as she shares the message of Christ.  You are able to find and watch the shows through your computer at any time.  Go to NPATV.org.  Look at “Videos on Demand” then “Town VOD” and a list of shows will pop up. Scroll through for “Today in Christ.”  Episode #2 airs on Monday evening at 5:00.

We had a great time at our first Moms & Tots playgroup this past Saturday!  We had a crew of 6 mom sand 7 tots, most of whom are new to any activities at our church!  Our next group is Thursday the 27th at 11am, and our next Saturday group will be Nov. 12 at 11am.  With the added hustle and bustle in our nursery space for play groups and Sunday worship, there are a few items that would be especially helpful.  We could use 2 tension mounted baby gates, some packages of hypo-allergenic/sensitive skin baby wipes, and Diaper Genie refill liners.  If you have extra’s around the house you no longer use, or see them at a low cost when you’re out and about, these items would be extremely helpful.  Thanks for helping us celebrate all the new life in our midst!

Next Sunday, we will have the info on the Operation Christmas Child Shoeboxes – our collection week is November 14th – 21st.  Pick up items as you see them!  This year we will have printed boxes for you to fill!

Serving on Sunday:
Greeter:  Bob Russell
Ushers:  Russ & Donna Wood
Kids:  Angela, Meg, Barbara, Debby S., Shannon, Janna
Coffeetime: We’re always looking for help with set-up, clean-up and bringing goodies!
That’s all for now- see you on Sunday!
