Mid November Updates

Hope you have had a good week!  Lots of things happening at this bustling time of year. Please take the time to read through and make note of where you can share some of your time.

Saturday is a busy day here at UCN.

The first meeting of the NEW Women’s Study is at 9:30, meeting in the Ruth Room across from the office.  Please read Chapter #1 of “The Call.”  We have a few more copies of the book available so if you are still interested in joining this study, you are welcome to just come on Saturday morning.  We look forward to seeing you!

Following this study, there will be a Faith Seeds meeting for all those involved in this outreach ministry.  Sue Johnson will be here to talk about some of the changes happening in the ministry and how that will affect us.  There may also be opportunity for us to be more involved.  I encourage you to be here if you are or have been a part of this group.

Moms & Tots meets at 11:00 in the nursery, a few doors down from the Ruth Room. Meg had a great group at the first get-together.  A wonderful opportunity for Moms and kids to chat and lend support to each other.

Finally…on Saturday evening from 7:00-9:00 is the time for middle school age kids to join Wyld Life, which is a part of Young Life at a family home in Walpole  Please be in touch with Meg with any questions.

Sunday morning

begins with prayer in the church parlor.  That space is available beginning at about 8:45. Come and go as you need to and spend some time in prayer for our church and its ministries.  Worship follows at 10:00 in the sanctuary.  Pastor continues his message series from The Story.  Please read Chapter 3 of Ruth in preparation.   Kids Connection is in place for the younger ones.  Coffee time follows in Veno Hall.

Sunday is our first collection day for Operation Christmas Child.  There will be a table at the front of the sanctuary on Sunday to receive your boxes.  Next Sunday, the 20th is the last day to bring your boxes to church.  I did find a few boxes in the Ruth Room that I have already put in the sanctuary. We do need someone to volunteer to bring the boxes to the drop-off spot in Sharon on either the 20th or 21st.  Real easy to do!!  Janna has  done this for the past several years and  cannot do it this year.  Most cars can accommodate the 50 plus boxes that we expect.  Please speak to Pastor or contact the office if you can help out.  THANK YOU!

The Council is reminded of the meeting on Monday evening at 7:00 in the Council Room. Please check your email for a reminder on this from Pastor Kevin.

Evening Bible Study meets on Monday evening, November 21st

at 7:00 at the parsonage.  For more information, speak with Pastor.

Thank you to everyone who has generously donated food items for the Thanksgiving dinner on November 16th. Those supplies need to be at the church today.  We need some volunteers to help out with preparing vegetables on Tuesday, November 15th at 10:00.  Bring your favorite potato peeler!

Once again this year, our WISH group will be baking and selling pies for Thanksgiving.  Please stop by the table in Veno Hall on Sunday and place your order for apple or pumpkin pie!  Thank you to everyone that has volunteered supplies for pie baking – those items can be left in the bin near the kitchen hallway.  We may still be in need of a few items.  Check out the supply list in Veno Hall.

Christmas Fair is coming Dec 3rd – It is a great way to get to know one another and to reach out to our community as the body of Christ. In addition to signing up to work, there are other ways to help: Pick up items for a themed raffle basket. Plan your holiday baking to include baked goods and candy for the bake table. You can bless your home and the church by getting rid of clean used items for the treasures room. We can take books, household items, extra Christmas decorations and more – but no TVs, computers, microwaves or clothing please! You can bring items in now and put them behind the curtain on the stage. If you want an electronic copy of the fair poster or the special raffle tickets, I can email you copies. Please be in touch with me if you have suggestions, ideas, or questions (barbrialan@yahoo.com) ~ Barbara Sweeny

Did you STOP and read the letter from our Compassion Child?

It is posted on the board near the kitchen.   This is our first letter from Kevin and he sounds happy and healthy!  We would love to have a volunteer or two to write back to him. This can be done right online from the comfort of your home!  Very easy letter form to use – please speak to me and I can show you what needs to be done.  Again EASY but important task that will take about 5 minutes…but will make a huge difference in Kevin’s life.  Hope to hear from someone soon!

I am sure Pastor would appreciate it! Keep Janna in your prayers!

Early November Connection

Hope you are enjoying these first days of November. We have a LOT of things to mention today.  I am going to try and be somewhat brief.  Please “plug-in” and read your bulletin and check the bulletin boards and display tables for details on what I mention, please!

The “Walk to Emmaus” is this weekend.  We have 3 women participating  Please keep them in your payers over the next few days.

Saturday is one of our favorite days of the year as we turn our clocks BACK and get that extra hour of sleep.  Be sure and change your clock before going to bed on Saturday night!

Sunday is another busy day here at our church.  This is All Saints Sunday when we remember those that have passed away during this year.  Communion will also be offered on Sunday.  Our Helping Hands offering will be received.   Pastor’s series from The Story continues.  Please read the second chapter of Ruth in your Bible.  You can also read Chapter 9 in The Story.  Your opportunity for prayer is prior to worship in the church parlor.  We look forward to seeing you in worship at 10:00 – start your week with your church family and share in great music, prayers and praises and coffee time!

Pastor’s Bible Study on Abraham meets Monday evening at 7:00 at the parsonage.

Young Life meets at the church on the top floor at 7:27pm on Monday evening.

Please keep the election on Tuesday in your prayers.  That is probably the most important thing that we can all do.  PRAY for our leaders!

OPEN DOOR:  Thank you to everyone who has generously donated food items for the Thanksgiving dinner on November 16th.  Please be sure that your donations are at the church by Friday, November 11th.  We still need 25 pounds of potatoes.  Green Mountain White or Yukon preferred.  Please speak to Georgia with any questions.  We also need some volunteers to help out with preparing vegetables on Tuesday, November 15th at 10:00.  Bring your favorite potato peeler!

PIE DAY!  Once again this year, our WISH group will be baking and selling pies for Thanksgiving.  Please stop by the table in Veno Hall on Sunday and place your order for apple or pumpkin pie.  Thank you to everyone that has volunteered supplies for pie baking!  I think we are still in need of apples, but look at the supply list on Sunday to be sure.  There will also be an insert in your bulletin.

WOMEN’S STUDY: The first meeting of the Women’s Book Study will be on Saturday, November 12th at 9:30 in the Ruth Room across from the office.  If you have not picked up your book, please stop by the office.  Read Chapter #1 in preparation.

FAITH SEEDS:  Remember that we will be meeting with Sue Johnson on Saturday the 12th at about 11:15. in the Ruth Room.

Christmas Fair update: Please look for the sign-up table in the Welcome Center on Sunday to sign up to help, to make a raffle basket, or to bake. There are lots of ways you can be a blessing! I will be away this weekend but if you want to be in touch or join the team of helpers (even if only behind the scenes) please be in touch: barbrialan@yahoo.com.  Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Signs, flyers and raffle tickets are also available at the table.  Barbara Sweeny

Samaritan’s Purse Shoeboxes:  Be sure and pick up your supplies from the Welcome Center to fill a shoebox for a little one!  We will have 2 collection Sundays this year.  November 13th and November 20th.  We are in need of a volunteer to deliver the shoeboxes to the local drop-off spot.  There is quite a procedure in place to assure the boxes arrive at their destination.  We are just one of the pieces!  Once we fill the boxes, they are taken to a local drop-off spot.  They are then taken to a regional spot and then shipped to North Carolina distribution center.  So we have specific dates to adhere to – that guarantees a smooth operation!  Our boxes need to be dropped off at Hope Church in Sharon on Sunday, November 20th from 2:00-6:00pm OR Monday, November 21st from 8:00-11:00am.  Please contact the office if you can help out with this.  In years past, we have delivered about 50 boxes that have fit into my car so pretty much anyone’s care can accommodate them.  I am not able to deliver then this year, so we really need some help with this. THANK YOU!

Steward Hospice held their annual Remembrance Service here last Sunday afternoon.  This was a very memorable time for all involved, especially those that had lost a loved one.  There is a thank you from Steward posted on the board.
